The University of Wisconsin Extension Dairy Team members have just completed the final draft of the “Economic Costs and Labor Efficiencies Associated with Raising Dairy Replacements on Wisconsin Dairy Farms Custom Heifer Raising Operations”. The report is now available publicly. This report is a summary of 49 tie-stall, free-stall and custom calf/heifer grower operations on the cost of raising dairy replacements. UW-Extension Specialist Pat Hoffman led a group of county ag agents in 1998 to determine the cost of raising dairy replacements and labor efficiencies. With inflation and increases in feed and fuel costs, 21 county agents this past summer collected data from 49 operations to update the report and reflect today’s prices of raising heifers. The report is available here.
